There isn´t a direct translation for "iks". It´s just the end of the Estonian declination. Replies to a question to/for whom. Example: Edutati kompül-iks - was promoted to/for ... Actually it should be kompüliks, but the hyphen is putted there for better reading.

I suppose it´s shortened from pataljoniülem. Patül - pataljoniülem - chief of the batallion. Kompül - kompaniiülem - chief of the company.
